No mention of VMWare? A lot of the considerations that Michael notes with CPU’s and RAM can be set directly in custom CPU and RAM allocation settings within vSphere. I don’t have 1 customer out of the last 50 that is using Hyper-V - and all my customers are very large Federal and Fortune 1000 clients.]]>

Virtualising SQL server is generally not a good idea as the IOPS is likely to be a bottleneck if you virtualise SQL Server. Michael does suggest at least seperating the SQL role onto a seperate VM, this is a much better idea as at least you can P2V if the SQL VM becomes the bottle neck. Seperating the SQL VM will ensure you farm upgrade path is at least a lot more pleasant.]]>
